How lovely to be able to take this opportunity to reminisce just a little on behalf of my family. I first met Eleanor when my parents were both living in Charnwood Close but were already beginning to find socializing a bit tricky. She would pop in, share a glass of wine, and lift everyone’s spirits with lively conversation. She was one of the very few people who could cope with my father’s deafness. She opened her house to family members who overflowed from my parents’ spare room. She drove my mother to Scotland. She accompanied her to a family wedding. She kept my father company while I took my mother to yet another wedding. I have lost count of the number of meals and coffees we shared at her house. She was the epitome of hospitality. The last few years were not so easy, but even then we were able to share a trip to the literary festival and other visits poring over family photos. It seems so very poignant that you will be marking the day with just a handful of people when Eleanor was someone who was renowned for her global friendships and her unlimited hospitality. I am sure there are family and friends worldwide who will be with you in spirit. Our thoughts will be with you, and she will always be remembered on walks on Leckhampton Hill. Hilary
